Hello and a happy new season

Iceland started off as annually on the 1rst of April when several trout rivers, some with sea trout, others with stationary stocks, were opened. In short, the opening days were outstanding and most of the rivers were recording some of the best start-off fishing for years.

Two of these pass as "our" rivers. First, Tungulækur was tremendous. This is Iceland's by far best sea trout river and on the first day of fishing, 110 sea trout were landed on the 3-4 daily rods. Most were in excellent condition following a relatively mild winter and there were quite a few very big fish. Over half a dozen ranging from 80 to 84 cm putting them in the 10 to 14 pound range. Anglers were hitting fish all over the river, as well as in the junction to the Skaftá.
And this weekend 6-7 April a Finish group was fishing and had over 60 fish and I just got now an e-mail from group leader Matti:

”Hi Pröstur,
Thank you very much for the great weekend.
We really enjoyed to stay with our friendly hosts.
That river was incredible and it is sure that we come back soon to Iceland.
Br Matti”
We have openings for Tungulækur upon request and the river usually stays hot until a week of May, far longer than other sea trout rivers in the area. And then pick up again in late August untill 20. October so please feel free to call us up or send us an e-mail.

As for Minnivallalækur, our world renouned brown trout river, it to started off well although you will hardly see the same amount of fish landed there as in Tungulækur. Minni remains technical and asks questions of its guests. The group that opened the river somehow though failed to connect, which was surprising as numerous sightings had been made in the days before. However, two anglers fishing for a day, following the starting group, connected all over the river, eventually landing seven great browns from 3 to 6 pounds, and loosing a few as well.

We also have openings on the "Minni" and a combo trip to both rivers is a thrilling idea, as there is only an hours drive from one to the other. Also, please inquire on our salmon fisheries, we can still fit you in on our outstanding beats on Jökla, Breiðdalsá and Hrútafjararðará. We are optimistic for 2013, as our rivers did not do to badly at all last season when most of the rivers in Iceland had an unexpected collapse. Our smolt programs have been top notch and all has gone well. So we are anticipating a memorable seas.
