Cold spring in Iceland

Hello clients and friends,

The trout season has been underway for several weeks now and the first salmon rivers will be opening next Friday. Despite a severely cold spring, the first salmon sightings have occured and some people are predicting a substantial upturn from last seasons poor fishing. First to open are traditionally Norðurá and Blanda. Our salmon rivers are late bloomers and do not start until the start of July.

Minnivallalækur has had a tough first weeks due to the super cold spring. The fish are there but not responding well due to the cold. Every now and then some of our guests have though been lucky, at one point two of our people landed eighteen big browns and on another occasion twelve were landed, many of them very big. Two of our guests had an amazing occurance, while playing a nice brown trout while filming underwater with a GoPro. A larger trout attacked the one that was fastened to the fly. It seemed to stun the fighting trout, and then in some ridiculous frenzy, it went on to attack the submerged GoPro. This is all on film and the owners, who didn't believe what they had just seen, will release it sometime this summer. Hopefully we will be able to show it to you.

The spring season for Tungulækur is now just about over and the fishing was amazing as usual. Also, the sea char have entered the lagoon at Breiðdalsá. Several anglers have already done well there.

So all in all we are good and looking forward to what may come. We have some openings on Breiðdalsá and Jökla rivers for both salmon and trout as well for sea-run arctic char, they are well worth looking at and we also have a lucrative opening on Hrúta due to að cancelation, all three rods 6.-10th August, prime time and not often that we can offer prime time Hruta to others than regulars.

So be in touch and let us develop a brilliant fishing trip to Iceland for you.
