Our three major salmon rivers all started yesterday and we are very pleased with how things panned out. As we anticipated, Breiddalsa and Hruta produced well. To our pleasant surprise, Jokla also yielded a few salmon which has never been the case so early in the season before.
The first shift on Breiddalsa was a good one. Despite high water levels and cold tempertures our blend of French and Icelandic clients hooked 10 salmon and landed 6. This is our best start ever. The salmon were caugth in various pools which is also very good news. They were all mws's, ranging from estimated 7 to 14 pounds. Bigger ones have been spotted.
The conditions on Hruta and Jokla were cold as well, Hruta yielded two salmon on the first shift and to our pleasant surprise, two salmon were also caugth on the Jokla system and a third broke off. Great news that leaves us full of optimism for the coming season.
Nice 2SW fish are running the Breiðdalsá river now and here are two nice salmon from the waterfall in middle part of the river. |
